Marketers need to build wireframes.
There. I said it.
Wireframes are not just for designers. As a marketer, I’ve found them invaluable in two major scenarios:
- Building and modifying landing pages
- Designing or redesigning blog homepages, individual article pages, and other types of content
Why Marketers Should Embrace Wireframes
Wireframes are a crucial tool for marketers, offering several key benefits:
1. Clarifying Messaging and Copy Direction
Wireframes help to clarify the messaging, the reasoning behind it, and the goals. This becomes especially important when dealing with stakeholders who may question the choices being made. A wireframe provides a visual representation that can effectively communicate your vision and objectives.
2. Balancing Creativity and Structure
Depending on how detailed you make your wireframes, you can guide your designers while still giving them the freedom to be creative. Personally, I prefer to keep wireframes super basic, allowing professional designers to work their magic without feeling constrained.
3. Reviewing Copy and Layout
Creating wireframes allows you to review the copy and its order more easily. It provides a clear structure, helping you ensure that the content flows logically and effectively.
4. Reusability
Wireframes can be reused for different projects in the future. This saves time and maintains consistency across various campaigns and content pieces.
Getting Started with Wireframes
If you’re pressed for time, you can always ask your designer for a rough wireframe design to build upon. Additionally, tools like “Wireframes to Go” can provide quick templates and inspiration to get you started.
Remember, these wireframes don’t need to be perfect. It’s okay if elements aren’t centered or if the layout isn’t polished. The designer will refine everything from scratch anyway.
